True spiritual enlightenment does not end with personal peace. If you achieve enlightenment, the next required step is washing the dishes—engaging in acts of service. Community provides friction to test our ego, while service manifests inner realization into tangible compassion for the world.
The Trap of Spiritual Isolation
It is easy to feel perfectly loving and egoless when meditating alone in a silent room. True spiritual maturity is tested in traffic, in arguments with a spouse, and in the trenches of navigating difficult human dynamics. The community is the friction required to polish the soul.
Serving the Suffering
